4 Tips to Keep Promises to Yourself As You Build Your Home Business

Most people fail in life because they don’t answer to themselves. Why is it that the easiest promises to break are the ones to ourselves?

I used to break promises to myself, I do not do that anymore. Here are 4 strategies that I use to keep my most important promises, the promises to me…

1) Small Promises
2) Constantly Learning
3) Accountability
4) Only Promise Things I Know I Will Achieve, now this may sound like I am taking the easy road and not challenging myself but I have the big dream and goal and all the little promises are the steps that take me there.

1) When making only small promises to myself they are much less stressful because they are not such a big task. When you make the small promises to yourself they are the steps that you can accomplish quickly and easily, plus you have a greater chance of success. An example when I first started to write on a regular basis I was not very consistent. I realized in order to be successful consistency was necessary. I found a time of the day where I am at my writing best and told myself only 15 minutes per day. That promise was much easier to keep that sitting down and attempting to write the entire article all at once.

2) When you are constantly learning, tasks/projects become easier because you have more knowledge and skill.  The result being to keep those promises much more easily.

3) Being accountable is huge! Be sure that someone knows the promises you make to yourself. As a matter of fact my husband just came over to make sure I was accomplishing my 15 minutes of writing and had not opened my email.  Find an accountability partner it could be anyone you trust; family, friend, co-worker or coach.

4) Making promises to yourself for the tasks that you know you can achieve will give you more confidence to go ahead and keep them happen.  You have been learning new skills, you can do it and you know you can.  Remember it does not have to be perfect the first time.  Allow yourself the time to develop the new skill.  A big behavior change is that don’t hold grudges against yourself.  You can do this too.  Celebrate the small victories!  You may not get the exact results you originally went for but you did it and you know if necessary you can do better next time.

People are very worried about the recession. It certainly doesn’t help when the media focusses on the problems of the recession. The media reinforcea this negativity by concentrating on “riding out the economic storm.”

So how can you handle the recession as an entrepreneur? Can you actually make money and build an online business that doesn’t just survive the recession, but thrives? Can you be a successful entrepreneur during these challenging times?

Yes, you can! Your attitude makes all the difference in the world. You get to choose what you will focus on. You can focus on the negative messages in the media and dwell on “riding out the economic storm.” Or you can focus on the opportunities that are surfacing during the recession. You get to choose.

Did you know that some of the greatest wealth the world had ever seen at that time was created during the last depression? The individuals who saw the opportunities that surfaced and took action created great wealth while most people struggled.

So what opportunities are surfacing during this time of economic upheaval? Many people are facing layoffs or cutbacks as it’s become very clear that there is no such thing as a “good, secure job.” They realize that they can’t depend on their employer to take care of them.

Consequently it’s a great time to recruit members for your home-based business. People are looking for business opportunities. Many network marketing companies report record numbers of people inquiring about starting a homebased business. You can easily check this out on Facebook and note the many business opportunities that are marketed there.

Again it comes down to your choice. Do you want to give your attention to the layoffs and cutbacks and financial struggles that you may be experiencing? Or do you choose to focus on all the people who are looking for a business opportunity?

What would your business look like if you sought out the opportunities during the recession? How could you position yourself to connect with people who are looking for business opportunities?

What if you marketed your business opportunity to people in industries who are laying off staff? How would your life improve as some of them joined your business?

It’s possible to tailor your marketing on Facebook to people in specific industries. Pray. Ask God to show you other creative ways to market your business to people in companies who are laying off staff.

If you want to have a different experience during the recession, you have to do something different.

Avoid the negative people in your life or, at the very least, limit your contact with them. Sometimes you have to set boundaries with people telling them that certain topics are off-limits for you. Then if they start a negative conversation, change the topic. If they keep on talking, you choose to leave or end the conversation.

You may have to bluntly tell some people that you will terminate any negative conversations with them. You will be doing them a favour showing them the power of your thoughts, especially when they see how successful you are.

Visualize what your successful business looks like. Write it out and read it daily – at morning and night. Imagine how you will feel when you achieve your success. What will it feel like to drive that new car, to live in your new home? How will you feel as you make a significant donation to the charity of your choice?

This recession could cause you to create an incredibly successful online business. Choose to focus on the positive opportunities and watch your success unfold!
